Cdr Abhilash Tomy, KC, NM (Retd)

Sailor. Circumnavigator. Survivor.

Motivational Speaker Inspiring Millions With His Incredible Story

Abhilash Tomy stands as a testament to human resilience and the indomitable spirit of adventure. His name is forever inscribed in maritime history as one of only nine sailors to have completed the legendary Golden Globe Race in its 55-year history.

Known as the slowest, longest, and most challenging sporting event in the world, the Golden Globe race pushes entrants and their machines to their absolute limits. Abhilash's journey in this race is a tale of extraordinary courage and determination. In 2018, after 82 days at sea, he faced a near-fatal accident in the treacherous southern waters that left him with spinal injuries and near paralysis.

However, the story didn't end there. In a remarkable display of resilience, he returned to the very race that had nearly claimed his life. Defying all odds, he not only completed the race but secured a podium finish, spending an astounding 236 days alone at sea. This incredible comeback saw him navigate through unpredictable ocean conditions, constantly pushing the boundaries of human endurance earning him the title of India's "Titanium Tomy".

Adjudged in the top ten toughest Indians, Abhilash's achievements extend beyond the Golden Globe Race. In 2013, he became the first Indian to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe under sail. His unwavering determination has earned him recognition as one of the world's most accomplished sailors, inspiring countless individuals to pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance.

Today, Abhilash Tomy continues to inspire as a mentor and coach, sharing his vast experience and indomitable spirit with the next generation of sailors. His journey serves as a powerful reminder that with courage and determination, one can overcome even the most daunting challenges and emerge victorious.
